The mission of the American Business Women's Association is to bring together business women of diverse backgrounds and provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking, support and national recognition.
At the close of World War II, many women who had joined the work force for the first time during the war were reluctant to give up their newfound careers. Like you, they were navigating a professional path. Hilary A. Bufton Jr., a Kansas City businessman, saw the positive impact women were making on businesses. He, along with three businesswomen, created a national support network for working women.
On September 22, 1949, the American Business Women's Association was founded. Throughout its proud history, ABWA has dedicated resources to women's education and provided workplace skills and career development training for more than half a million women.
The chapter accomplishments of its membership is all about donated time and effort to raise scholarship funds at various activities throughout the year. As new members join from diverse backgrounds, ABWA brings together business women to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition.
